My Shadow.

I made a shadow shape. It was a statue shape. I felt wobbly. I love my shadow shape.

My Scarecrow.

Here is my fantastic scarecrow!  First, I read a poem about a scarecrow.  Then I sketched one and Mrs Kerr blew it up on the photocopier.  I coloured my picture with pastels and glued on his flippy, floppy hat.

Writing About Clouds.

We read a poem about clouds.  We went outside and we looked into the sky to see the clouds.  Some of them were shapes we know.  We wrote about what we saw and Mrs Kerr helped us to publish our writing.

"I went outside and I saw some clouds.  One of them looked like Planet Earth.  I chose a shape and now my story is in the shape.  Next time I would choose a house shape and write a story about inside a house.  My picture looks amazing and it is floating on the wall."

Numbers In Between.

I am playing - Monkey in the Middle.  I have to look at the two monkeys on the card and choose which number goes in between.  I play lots of Maths games in Room 1 because its a cool, fun way to learn new things and to get better and better.

"I am fast at this game and sometimes I make a mistake, and then I just fix it up.  If this game was harder, it would go up to 30.  I like playing the skip counting games and putting the numbers in the right order, but some of the numbers are missing (the odd numbers) and that makes it trickier."

Reading Eggs.

We are learning to use Reading Eggs at school and at home.  I can choose the games I want to play and my friend can choose the same game or a different game.  Some games have alphabet letters and some games have words.  For the really hard games, I have to read a whole sentence.

"I can log in by myself on the laptop and the ipad.  At home I play on Mum's ipad.  My favourite game is the Puzzle Park.  I can match the letters.  I am getting faster and faster."

Sketching a Honeybee.

When we are sketching at school, we do a quick sketch first.  Then we do a very slow, careful sketch with the teacher, and these look amazing!  Here is my honeybee in the hive.

Publishing My Writing.

This is the story I wrote in my book and then I typed the words by myself on the computer.  My picture matches my words.

"It's tricky finding the letters to make a story.  The picture is tricky too because it's hard to draw up the lines so the paint doesn't explode all over my picture.  My picture looks pretty!"

Look What I Can Read!

"I can find the word-of-the-week and I can write it in my story too.  Mrs Kerr tells me the word and then I have to find it and I can write it with the chalk on the chalk board.  It is easy for me because I knew the word already and that makes it easy to spell it.  Sometimes reading is tricky and sometimes it is easier.  My friends and the teacher help me with reading my words."

Skip Counting in Twos.

This game is on Sunshine Online.  The monkey and the orangutan and the gorilla are eating all of the bananas and I am counting them too.

"I can skip count by myself like the gorilla can.  I can skip count to ten and the next number is twelve and then fourteen.  I would like to skip count all the way up to one million!"

We are learning to write our numbers by ourselves and to put them into the right order.

"I can write the numbers up to 12.  Some numbers are a little bit tricky, 3, 7, 9 and 12.  I can try harder at home and at school and then they will be easy for me.  I put the numbers into the phone when I ring Daddy when he is in Christchurch."

I Can Read.

I am learning to read and write the word - can - this week at school.  Here it is in my reading book.

"Reading is easy for me at school because I already know lots of words and I can find them in my book.  At home I read to Mummy and sometimes to Daddy."

My Writing.

This is my first week at school.  I wrote a story.  First I drew my picture.  Next I told Mrs Kerr my story.  She wrote the words for me and I copied underneath.

"It was easy for me to think of my words because I already know lots of words.  I really like my rainbow because it's colourful."
